Sri Lanka Travel

After my wedding date was finalized, the most important question from my girls was “Where are we going for your bachelorette?” After a million conversations and discussions, we decided to do a bachelorette trip to Thailand. Getting a “YES” from the family was the next and toughest step. As predicted, a BIG NO for Thailand and our location moved to Sri Lanka. 4 girls, 4 days in a new country was stimulating and the trip turned out to be indelible for us.

We explored three locations in Sri Lanka; Colombo, Bentota, and Negombo.

Sri Lanka

We booked a round trip from New Delhi to Colombo for 20k per head. After a journey of 3 hours and 35 minutes, we reached Colombo around 4.10 in the afternoon on 29th September. We were just some elated souls couldn’t just wait to get the bachelorette trip started.

TRAVEL TIPS:

  • Get an activated sim from the airport.
  • Get your currency at the airport.
  • Do not get all your money at once. Get 60-70% of it and keep rest for the later time.
  • Finding and getting a taxi from outside the airport is easy.

2 Days in Colombo

We stayed at SkyLounge apartment in Colombo for 2 nights. The apartment was spacious, well furnished with a balcony having a view of the entire city. On the day we arrived, we explored the renowned Dutch Hospital at night. This building of the Dutch colonial era is now a shopping and dining precinct.

A myriad of restaurants had us confused and then, there was Oktoberfest time on the streets. Live music, beer, dance, and good vibes caught us in.

TRAVEL TIP:

  • Uber is one of the cheapest modes of transport in Sri Lanka. It is safe to travel at night.

Next day started with grocery shopping and DIY breakfast. Later in the day, we explored places like National Museum of Colombo, Galle Face Green, and ODEL Shopping Mall.

Known for its beautiful décor and stunning art gallery entrance, our lunch was at the Paradise Road Gallery café. Food was great but a little overpriced. From here, we headed back to our apartment and took some rest.

For dinner, we had a place reserved for dinner at the Ministry of Crab. This place is a heaven for crab and prawn eaters as they serve absolutely fresh. After dinner, we hopped into the other shops of Dutch area and bought plenty of teas.

TRAVEL TIP:

  • Always make a reservation in the ministry of crab and reach there on time.
  • Buy a variety of Sri Lankan tea.

3rd Day in Bentota

2 hours road trip from Colombo took us to our next destination and resort. We stayed at Avani resort in Bentota. This resort was lavish with sea-facing rooms, a big lush green lawn, a swimming pool, 2 restaurants, 1 buffet area, and beach on the front just around the corner. It was an exquisite treat to us.

We ditched eating at the resort’s restaurant and tried the food at Amal Villa Restaurant and bar which was 10-15 minutes away from the resort. Red snapper with extra spices was the best-grilled fish that I ever had in my life. We relaxed and enjoyed the beach then, in the swimming pool for a long time.

After a breakfast buffet at the resort, we left for our next and the last stop, Negombo.

4th Day in Negombo

Away from the main street, Waterland was our final stop in Sri Lanka. Two big swings in the middle of a small pool were astounding and it filled us with excitement.  Our villa had a look and feel of ancient royal rooms with a little dash of modernity.

The property has stunning villas with private pool; a marvellous open spa with a variety of massage to offer, and impressive hospitality. We used the surroundings well in our pictures.

Later in the day, we roamed around Negombo’s main shopping street, enjoyed food, and bought souvenirs.

TRAVEL TIP: If nothing works out then, take a tuk-tuk. It is another easy way to reach and explore the cities.
